Go for the fastest wireless you can afford. Netgear stuff is ok:

The best thing to do is run cable to your main computer. Then I recommend a Lynksys WRT54G wireless router to cover the rest of your house. If money is no object you can do a tiny bit better but the WRT54G is available for $ 49.95 and does a fine job.

The Lynksys is always on sale at Best Buy, Citcuit City or Walmart.
