Kyocera KPC680 ExpressCard
Article by Eugenia Lacombe
Connecting to the Internet when you are somewhere where high speed Internet accsess is expensive or non-existent does not have to be a pricy or difficult task. While low speed dial up Internet access may try to woo you in with their low costs or while high speed satellite Internet may try to tickle your fancy by teasing you with what they consider to be high speed Internet access for astronomical prices, there is a better way to access the internet. And that's via the cellular data networks such as Verizon and Sprint's EV-DO. One of the best ways to take advantage of those networks is with the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard.
Even though many other Kyocera cards have been substandard, the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard is a fantastic product, even if it does use the Express Card format instead of the newer, and more compatible, USB 2.0 format.
The Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard uses the EVDO Rev. A and EVDO Rev. 0 cellular networks for speeds of up to 3.1 Mbit/s download and 1.8 Mbit/s upload. That's pretty fast, although in a good location the HSDPA BroadbandConnect GSM network is faster overall. However, the EVDO networks have a bit more coverage, so chances are that you can use the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard to take advantage of these speeds no matter where in America you are.
Without a doubt, the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard is one of the most compatible cards on the market. While it uses the newer Express Card format for somewhat faster data transfer speeds, it also includes an optional PCMCIA adapter for compatibility with older computers as well. Furthermore, unlike so many other Experss Cards for wireless Internet access, the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard is Mac and PC compatible.
Finally, for superb reception, the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard includes two antennas with an area that can be used to add an extra antenna should you need it.Pros
-Express Card or PCMCIA connection available -Mac and PC compatible -Easy to install and use -Excellent reception in most areasCons
-EV-DO network currently not as fast as BroadbandConnect -Express Card instead of USB 2.0Overall
For those on the CDMA cellular network provided by Verizon or Sprint, the Kyocera KPC680-ExpressCard is an exceptional networking device. It is highly compatible with many computers and features fast Internet access speeds, making it the perfect product for those who are looking for high speed Internet when there are no other options.
