An iPad with engraving greatingsThis is the first Christmas season that the IPad has been out, and I believe it will top on my honey's lists of most wanted 2010 Christmas gifts. Armed with an iPad, he can stay connected while on the road. From surfing the Web, checking e-mail, watching videos, and listening to music, the iPad does it all. As Apple has added a free engraving service for the iPad, so I want to engrave something sweet on the back for him. He is a pretty simple guy so I don't want to be too hard for him to "get" or too mushy that the guys at work might make fun of him. I remember that he is a Beatles fan, so I put "8 days a week" from the song implying that "I love you 8 days a week. I'm sure he will certainly be moved by this.

A DVD of grandchildren videoOur family is scattered about the country, and we don't get to spend enough time together. When my sister-in-law and her children came for a visit, we decided to make a video of the grandchildren so that their grandparents could get to know them a little better. My husband interviewed all six kids, who ranged in age from 6 to 14. He asked them what they wanted to be when they grew up, where they wanted to live, their favorite things to do, things they liked about school, and more. We ended up with about 30 minutes of footage. We used our computer to create a cover, then slipped it and the DVD into a case to make it look store-bought.

The kids had a lot of fun making the video; we learned a lot about them; and the grandparents absolutely loved hearing the children talk about themselves in their own words. But the best part is yet to come. Years from now, we can all watch this DVD again, and we'll be able to see how much the kids have changed and how many of their ambitions panned out. - Shannon Sheehy, Chesterfield, Virginia

A greeting with iTunes gift cardGiven that friends aren't the highest-paid professionals in the world, a book, a bouquet of flower, or even a greeting card-- is sure to be deeply appreciated. We purchased some iTunes gift card from Apple Store, wrote down our warm winter wishes, then delivery to friends, and done. Well, they're very happy to receive our holidy greeting, and also the iTunes gift cards can be used to purchase music, videos or game downloads for their iPods and iPhones. - Rafael, Brazil

A "MP3 player" of iCakeMy girlfriend is a music lover. This holiday I turn up the fun and make a oversize MP3 player gift for her. I spoon 1/3 cup of white frosting into a resealable sandwich bag and set it aside. Next, I snip a corner from the bag of frosting and pipe outlines over the toothpick grooves, and then get the smooth look of the "MP3 player". For earphones, I use a toothpick to make a hole in the bottom of each gumdrop. Then poke a licorice lace into each hole - one lace should be shorter than the other. Pinch the laces together as shown and set them next to the cake. Well, this iCake makes our holiday dinner to end on a sweet note. - Ray, UK.

A home-cooked dinner1 year ago the Sale family of Carmel, Indiana, cooked up the perfect annual gift for Great-Grandfather Jack, who lives on his own. They realized that he didn't need any more things, says mom Marlene, but would surely appreciate some home-cooked meals, especially his favorite, roast beef and carrots, and pork and sweet potatoes.

So in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the family prepared and froze nine complete meals in microwavable containers. Then they made a card with a picture of Santa roasting a turkey and listed each "frozen dinner from the North Pole" by number. Whenever Jack was ready to eat, he'd just choose a meal, take off the cover, heat it up, and enjoy a home-cooked feast.

"The gift was a huge hit," says Marlene, who adds, "The plates keep coming back from Jack, ready to be filled again."

An iPhone with his favorite movieiPhone is a lot of amazing things - a revolutionary phone, widescreen iPod, breakthrough Internet device, and home for thousands of applications. My dad's delighted to getting an iphone from my mom last Christmas. My mom Emily purchased the new iPhone 3G, and brought Transformers DVD Movie, my dad's favor. She used her Mac computer to rip the DVD movie to MPEG4 format with DVD to iPhone Converter from iFunia and then transfer the converted MPEG4 video to iPhone via iTunes. My dad absolutely loved getting this perfect gift, more important, he can enjoy the favorite movie anytime and anywhere. - Mike, Canada.

A calendar of family eventsWhen you're from a large family, coming up with something for everyone on your gift list can be a challenge. Bellu of Cayucos, California, devised a practical solution: a calendar that features a laminated collage of family pictures on the inside cover and a directory of phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and mailing addresses on the back. Birthdays (including ages), anniversaries, and other important events are printed directly on the monthly pages. Every year, Bellu updates the calendar with new photos and contact information. The gift's been a particular favorite with Bellu's cousin, Emily, who lives in Oregon. "It's been incredibly useful for keeping in touch with family members, who are scattered around the globe," says Emily.

A photobook full of memoriesMom Sherry Frick of Baltimore says her son Christopher's preschool teacher, Andrea Gambardella, loved receiving this photobook of watercolors from the entire class. Ms. Gambardella seconds that emotion: "It's always nicest to get Christmas memory gifts from the students." To make the photobook, the kids created watercolor paintings on heavy pieces of paper that were then trimmed down to about 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Each child glued a wallet-size photo of himself or herself to the middle of his or her painting and signed (or doodled) his or her name on the back. A parent bound the artwork together by punching a row of holes down the side, threading a pretty ribbon through the pages, and adding a cover that identified the class and the year.
