How do I hook up my belkin wireless router?
Best answer:
You don't need software for a router unless it has the option to connect
by USB and you plan to do that. You can always go to Belkin's support
web site to get the manual and anything else you need for your model.
There should be five ports on the router and a power connector. One
port is labeled WAN and four are labeled LAN. Connect the WAN port
to your modem and plug in the power. the power light and modem light
should light up. Connect a computer by ethernet cable to one of the LAN
ports. That number port light should go on and the router should assign an
IP address to the computer automatically. Open a command
prompt on the PC by clicking Start-->Run, and typing cmd (press enter).
Type ipconfig and press enter. The display should show the IP address
of the PC and the Default Gateway (something like 192.168.1.1).
Put the Default Gateway address in the address bar of your internet
browser and it will give you the router's setup page where you may
configure security and other things. You may need a password, and
I believe the default password for Belkin is just blank, but you may
have to check the support manual. If there's a password on it which
you don't know, disconnect everthing and press the reset button
(it may be recessed and you'll need the end of a paper clip).
Press it for a few seconds and start from the beginning. You will need
the default password if it's not blank.
Also, if the router doesn't give the PC an IP address, press reset.
