Blackberry?
Best answer:
Im pretty sure you need a data plan and for t-mobile that runs about $ 20 a month. Text messages are text but everything else usually is data driven which in turn means you need a data plan. I wanted a blackberry once until i found out about that little issue as well. But i rather have a palm anyway.
Hope that helps!Pin to Pin messages count like instant messages and texts, they are $ .15cents per incoming/out messages. Yes you need a data plan to connect ...then the messaging plan..yes they are definilty counted as sms.

How to unlock BlackBerry Storm
Article by BlackBerry Unlocking
BlackBerry Storm is a great Smartphone that made by RIM (Blackberry). When you buy a Blackberry mobile phone from a cell phone carrier company (like AT&T, T-Mobile, Orange, Telus, Verizon or any other network carrier) mostly it will be locked to this certain network that you have the blackberry from - it means that if you have your blackberry from Verizon you wont be able to use it with an other carriers notworks such as orange...
When you change the SIM card in your BlackBerry (if it is not unlocked one) it will say that you can use it for emergency calls only (the blackberry device will display a message saying SOS that means you can call only emergency calls from your blackberry device) and this is because the mobile device is locked to this network you got it from.
In order to use your Blackberry Storm device with other networks you will need to remove to network lock settings - this can be done by getting an unique unlocking code for your blackberry (storm) device. Each Blackberry device has it's own IMEI code, the IMEI code can be found if you call *#06# from your BlackBerry, it is a 15 digit's number that will show on the screen after you click "send", you can unlock it using the IMEI code of your BlackBerry device, after you use an unlocking service to unlock the cell phone device you will get a unique unlocking code that can be used to unlock your blackberry storm and make it be open for any network use, you will then be able to insert any SIM card of any mobile network carrier worldwide and it will work with the number singed on the Sim card you use it is a great solution to switch networks and keep your blackberry device as it is.
Unlocking Blackberry and other mobile phone devices is legal and also fast - you can get unlocking codes to your email right after you order the unlock code online! all you need to do is to select the network that your blackberry storm device it's locked to, you can unlock blackberry storm online for a cheap price right now.
After you have done with the unlocking process and you have the code for your blackberry you will need to follow some easy instructions to insert the unlocking code into your device to active the unlock there are a few different unlocking types for blackberry mobile phones - Blackberry Storm unlocking instructions is different then blackberry pearl unlocking instructions so be sure to use the right one. Also, make sure to close all the network connections including the radio and WIFI on your cell phone device before using the unlocking instructions.
After you have insert the unlock code to your blackberry device you will need to restart it, then you can active all the connection back on and use your blackberry storm with any cell phone carrier in the world, once you unlocked it it's unlocked forever and you don't need to unlock it anymore.
It's better to have a unlocked blackberry phone because sometimes, even if you go for an holiday to a different country - you can use a local sim-card while you are visiting there without paying anything, after you come back home you can insert back your regular network carrier sim-card back in and again use your blackberry storm.
