what is the difference between boost mobile and metro pcs?
Best answer:
Metro PCS only works in certain cities...we have a phone like that called Cricket in Austin, Metro PCS in dallas

like when I go out of town i get no service because it only works in certain cities

http://www.metropcs.com/coverage/Boost walkie talkie runs on the Nextel network, has nationwide coverage and has sim cards using something called iden technology. You can't "flash" phones to iden, but you can use other iden phones with it by swapping sim cards, like Nextel phones. More on flashing below.

Metro runs on its own network. It has something called cdma technology with no walkie talkie or sims. Metro has spotty nationwide coverage and is known for allowing other phones from other companies, notably Sprint and Verizon to run on their network with a type of reprogramming process called "flashing". Metro's newest areas use AWS technology which is incompatible with their older phones and all flashed ones. A Boost walkie talkie/iden phone works anywhere in any Boost iden market, Metros don't.

BUT, there is a twist to all this, there is ANOTHER Boost mobile out there. It is called Unlimited by Boost Cdma. It combines the strengths of both Metro and Boost walkie talkie /iden. It allows you to pick a far greater range of phones then Boost walkie talkie does. It can be priced the same if you ask for the Nationwide Unlimited $ 50 plan special, it has way better national coverage then Metro. It works in in area that there is Sprint coverage and more. I personally don't recommend Boost/iden/walkie talkie because 1) They constantly drop calls. 2) Their texting is very slow/inconsistent. 3)They have trouble completing the calls at peak times.

Boost unlimited cdma does not have those issues. Sprint, which owns both Boosts doesn't like to mention it, but this is the better buy.
More info on Boost cdma unlimited.

Good luck. Take what you want, leave the rest alone.
